Sunbury Jets retain core group from its 2017 Championship winning team and attract new talent;

The Sunbury jets are pleased to announce that it has retained key players from its 2017 Championship winning side. Jets 2016 & 2017 captain and experienced campaigner Chelsea Burns is making a return, while SCW All star 5 player Orla O’Rielly will be back and New Zealand international Josie Stockill is returning for another season with the club. Key point guard Monique Stevens will be back to led the team at the point position and Rebecca Van Kyuk and Genevieve McCorkell add much needed depth and experience in the forward positions. The club is also happy to announce that Sharon Plichta makes a return doubling as a player and assistant coach and will be chasing 350 Big V games this season.

The club is very pleased to welcome back dynamic guard/forward Courtenay Wragg who rejoins the club after spending some years with Diamond Valley and the WNBL Melbourne Boomers program. Chloe Tidswell who has also spent some time at Diamond Valley makes a return. Coach Kennedy had this to say about their return; “This is a great thing for our club as we want to attract our local players back to our women’s program. Both girls are very hard working and have slotted right into our group and culture. They are a very welcomed addition to our program and will be important to our success this season.”

The club is ecstatic to welcome newcomer Jessica Scannell who comes to Sunbury after a season playing at Whittlesea Pacers in the Division One Women’s competition. Jess has been a member of the Irish Women’s National team and has a great deal of experience at all state levels in the Big V. “Jess is a very experienced campaigner and plays the game with great intensity and passion. Her experience, scoring talent and defensive intensity will be a welcomed addition to the team.”

The Jets also are delighted to welcome forward Molly Gretham who is coming back to basketball after a couple of years off. Molly most recently played basketball for Kyneton in the CBL competition and was named in the All Star Five team. “Molly just happened to fall on our laps this season and I really like what she has brought to our sessions. She has great size and touch around the basket, not to mention has excellent basketball I.Q. Her addition adds another quality forward to our team this season.

The club has been lucky enough to secure former Opals forward Elyse Penaluna for the upcoming season. “Elyse is a very talented and gifted player at both ends of the court. There is no doubt she will make a huge impact on our team and club. Due to her work commitments we may not have her every week, however we have the depth to take care of any times we will miss her. Elyse will bring so much experience to our team and having someone who can create as much as her on the offensive end will make everyone’s job so much easier. She is a great person and we are thrilled to have her with us and I am personally excited to see her on court again.”

The club also will be promoting Youth League players Emily Achter and Emily Conn to the team and both players will suit up when required, but also still play in the Jets Youth League Women’s side.
