Cap Is Back

The Sunbury Jets are proud to welcome back the 2016 D1W Golden Hands award winner, Defensive Player of the Year and Captain Chelsea Burns for the 2017 State Championship season.

In 2016 the Jets Captain led the league in assists and was 3rd overall in steals per game. The leader proved to be a real asset to the newly formed group winning a championship in her first season as captain.

Coach Kennedy Kereama said that the signing of Chelsea was key in maintaining the team’s defensive focus.

“This is a very key signing for our club this season. We will need Chelsea’s leadership and defensive talents if we want to compete in the state championship competition. Last season Chelsea played a very vital role in our defensive structure, her versatility means she can defend any position from 1 to 5 at state champ level.”

The Captain has now tasted Championship success in every state league level she has played at winning Championships at SEABL, SBL and Big V level.

“Chelsea played a big role in our championship wining season this year. All her past coaches often describe her as a “glue player” and I believe her unselfish attitude and leadership qualities make her the ultimate team mate. This was actually reflected in the team awarding her with the “Players Player Award” this season. We are thrilled to have her back with us.”

Chelsea will be joined by other signings that will be announced in the coming weeks. Pre-season training starts for the Jets SCW team on the 6th November 2pm – 4pm at Eric Boardman stadium.

Division 1 Men's Coach Announced

The SBA is pleased to announce local Ryan Addison as its new Division One Men’s Coach. Ryan who was the Division One Men’s Assistant Coach last season has now been promoted to the top position.

Ryan has carved his way as an Assistant Coach with a number of Youth League teams has playing experience at Youth and State Championship level. He has also worked with a number of senior men’s and boy’s programs over the past 10 years.

The Division One Men’s Coaching job drew attention from a number of international and national coaches. However, the club believed that Ryan shares in the club’s vision, values and has a robust strategic plan that will see sustained growth and development in the men’s program.

Director of Coaching Kennedy Kereama was pleased with the appointment “Ryan was a smart choice for the club.  He shares in our vision for men’s program and wants to build strong links between our juniors and the senior men’s team. Ryan is a great club person who has a good knowledge of the game and for us it made sense to work with a coach who is new in his coaching journey and help him develop over a 3 year period than have to re-advertise each year.”

“You see in many other sports the Assistant Coach is often promoted to Head Coach and for us this continuity is important.”

Ryan begins in his duties as coach straight away with his first task recruiting and retaining core local players. Open trainings commence this Sunday from 6pm – 8pm on court one at Boardman stadium, with other sessions to be advertised over the next week.

The SBA congratulates Ryan on his new position and looks forward to working with him over the next few seasons.

Domestic Games are Go

Thanks for your understanding. Games WILL GO AHEAD today. We just urge you to take care as we have been advised that the weather could change at any minute and there is still a chance of heavy sudden rain. Your safety is our priority.

We have inspected a few venues and all appear ok. Minimal leaks, we would like to ask teams to help out and bring a towel just in case.

If leaks get too dangerous the referees can call the game because of safety reasons. The SBA expects that all participants will abide by the code of conduct, behave accordingly and respect all officials decisions.

Again we were urging on the side of caution with an approximate 2400+ people attend games on a Saturday a little bit of prior preparation prevents poor performance.

Thanks again and good luck with your games today.
